Housing Petition Gathers Momentum

Dawn Primarolo is urging Council tenants in Bristol South to join the hundreds of local residents who have signed her petition to protect secure tenancies.  Under draconian Tory/Lib Dem plans, rents are set to sky-rocket, while renting a Council home for life will be a thing of the past.DTR White Border

Dawn has been asking residents to get their neighbours to sign up to her campaign, and has been inundated by responses.  Commenting, she said:

“These Tory/Lib Dem proposals are brutal.  The budget for social housing has been slashed by 50 per cent.  Planned Council houses here in Bristol, approved by Labour, will now not be built thanks to the Government’s cuts.  On top of that, the Government are now stopping secure tenancies.  That means a promotion at work could be swiftly followed by an eviction notice in the post.

“Many thanks to the hundreds of residents who have not only signed my petition, but who have taken it door-to-door, collecting signatures from their neighbours, friends and families.  We need to work hard to convince the Government to change their mind, so every signature really does count.”

Residents can sign up to Dawn’s campaign online at, where paper copies can also be printed (click here to go to campaign page).
