Bristol South MP 'surprised' at Lib Dem survey

Dawn Primarolo seeks reassurance

Local MP Dawn Primarolo has reacted with surprise to the latest Lib Dem intervention in the South Bristol Hospital project.

"I know Dr Barnard is new to Bristol South, but I'm a little surprised her council colleagues didn't think to inform her that the Primary Care Trust has been discussing the plans with local stakeholders - including GPs - for well over a year already. Exactly what she hopes to achieve by organising her own survey at this late stage is unclear, to say the least".

"I would like to think it is being conducted out of genuine curiosity - and that it is not another attempt by the Lib Dems to slow the schem down. Perhaps Dr Barnard could reassure me by sending a copy of her survey to my office, and give an undertaking to local residents that she will publish any responses in full. It is perplexing that she wants to duplicate what has already been done, rather than encourage her council colleagues to ensure the outline planning application is approved as quickly as possible".

"I think it is also regrettable that Dr Barnard has chosen to sideline the views of residents, who have repeatedly backed the plans, expressing strong support for the opportunity to create an exciting mix of health, swimming and fitness facilities on Hengrove Park. What more must residents do to convince the Lib Dems to fully support the plans?"
